    Mine was a mission with a single outcome, i.e. to recreate my late grandmother’s coffee cake. My dad’s career took us from pillar to post, but visits home were always furnished with a slice or two of her wonderful cake — that, and a big pile of comics. I remembered that a key ingredient was Camp Coffee and Chicory Essence which, I’m delighted to report, is available at your local supermarket, once again. That, and a few standard cakey ingredients, along with these excellent springform cake tins mean that I and my family can treat ourselves to that nostalgic indulgence. Now, if I can only find a big pile of Wham comics…
